DI Erica Swift starts the day with a man slashed across the face in his own home...No clues found, no footprints, no DNA, only a broken window in the back from where he may have got in...Soon a young woman is found strangled in her bed...There seems to be something about these cases that feels like Swift has seen it before...Even her partner, Shawn, agrees...Then she receives a phone call from prison...It's Nicholas Bailey...The man who murdered her husband...And many others!
He says he has information...That the person murdering people now has been writing letters to him...Should she actually go see him...She wanted to destroy him after what he did to her family...Can she hold it together meeting face to face?!
Darkness meets those who work to keep citizens in the light...Will the light be able to brighten the way...Or is Swift putting herself in the hands of evil...For one last time...
A fast-paced, gritty story with characters you will not forget, a plot that keeps you holding your breath, and a case that can make DI Erica Swift's life better...Or keep her in darkness...Forever...

This is another cracking read in the Erica Swift series, I'm guilty of not reading the previous two books but, to be honest it didn't spoil my enjoyment. Having said that, it would be better if you read the series in the right order, for obvious reasons because of the intriguing plotline which hints at the previous MC's past investigations.

I loved the way Marissa always puts her characters in jeopardy as some point in the book, it really ups the ante for me, as a reader, no spoilers here as it's written in the blurb, but with her new investigation Erica comes face-to-face with the man who is in prison for killing her husband in the first book of the series. Which makes this a real page-turner.

Great characters, intriguing plot and written at a fast pace, what more could thriller readers want?

The 6th book in the DI Erica Swift series and another great story. This is a good series and one I always enjoy. The author has a great way of writing her characters so that you either love or hate them and I love Erica.

Briefly, DI Erica Swift is dealing with two cases, a man who has been facially disfigured in a knife attack and a young woman found murdered in her flat. When another Force contact her about a woman’s burned body on their patch she begins to think that someone is copying old cases she was personally involved with. But who? Meanwhile, Nicholas Bailey, the man who murdered her husband is receiving strange letters in jail. Are they connected?

I have to own up and say I guessed the killer fairly early on in the book. However, I did have doubts at times and it in no way affected my enjoyment of this excellent book. It’s a good storyline and like all this series fast paced so I defy you wanting to put the book down before you finish it. A strong 4.5* from me.

This is book six of the DI Erica Swift Thriller series and sees Erica and her team at the Violent Crimes Task Force, called in to a violent tabbing of a young man in his home. He has been badly cut across his face, almost losing an eye. He managed to stagger out to the road and was helped by a couple of passers-by. Erica is without her usual partner DS Shawn Turner, as he is away on a boys holiday and she has a young Acting DS Hannah Rudd filling in for him. This brings about a bit of petty behaviour from one of the other officers in the team, who believed he should have been picked instead, not realising his behaviour was one of the very reasons he was deemed not ready to step up! The young man that was injured is an Irish lad with few real friends and no family about, called Brandon Skehan, and he was taken to hospital before the team could arrive on scene. His is only the first attack that the team will have to deal with.

Shortly after there is a woman killed in her bed, which immediately makes Erica believe that something is familiar about the setting, but she can’t think what. In the meantime, a certain prisoner called Nicholas Bailey, infamous for a series of crimes where he removed eyes from people and left them to wander off blind as a bat, most dying from the shock of the injury, before finally taking and killing her husband right in front of her, has been receiving letters from an anonymous source. The letters seem to hint about certain crimes and then later a certain detective he was involved in causing pain to and that this writer is willing to take over his actions and make sure DI Swift pays the ultimate price. All the letters are signed simply as M Cimi. When a third case occurs, of a woman left burnt beyond recognition near the Isle of Dogs, it is initially handled by the Met Murder Squad, but draws similarities to another past case of DI Swift’s where women and children were being used as organ donors, but not in this case.

Nicholas Bailey contacts her, saying he has evidence about the spate of recent crimes, but will only show her the letters once he has a deal to cut his sentence. He will only speak to Swift alone, so Shawn is unable to come in with her, now he is back from his holiday, but he waits outside for her. Erica realises these cases all seem to be linked to her former cases, but not in any chronological manner. What might be next is anyone’s guess! Erica is yet again in danger herself, as someone is acting as a copycat for some of her more gruesome cases and their final target is DI Swift herself! Erica has to face her worst nightmare in Nicholas, as he brings back all the memories of her husband’s death and how helpless she was when it happened. Her relationship with Shawn is progressing, but more as best friends than romantically, as she loves to work with him as a partner and she can’t have a romantic relationship while she is his boss. He has a great relationship with her daughter Poppy and it’s lovely to see. I still have hopes for them in the future! Lots of twists in the tale, as Erica and the team try to find out who is behind the series of crimes. Another well told tale of crime in the capital and with its usual twists and danger. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

DI Erica Swift is back in book six of the DI Erica Swift Thriller Series. In this book she is reunited with someone she never thought she would ever see again, Nicholas Bailey, the man who killed her husband. This is a captivating, suspenseful, mystery that is a page turning read. At times I felt like I couldn't read fast enough because I wanted to know what would happen next. This is one of those books that I didn't put down until the last page. The Mimic is a great addition to the series and I can't wait to read the next book by this fantastic author. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

A great plot with so many twists and turns that finding the culprit is more than necessary! This story got me hooked from the beginning and I just couldn´t out it down. The bad guy is always one step ahead and is always doing more and more harm, the police team investigating the cases are tired but never relent the pursuit. A very well thought police procedural that in spite of all the dreadful crimes keeps a light, confident tune to the story. Very entertaining!!!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Di Swift has cases that are reminding her of old cases is it a coincidence? First victim had someone had his his face cut and damage to eye from a knife. They can't find any trace of assailant. This is bringing back memories of loosing her husband.

Then a dead body that was strangled and one body burned. All these cases have in common is her. It is fun piecing all the puzzle together to figure out who is behind it.

I loved how it had so many elements from past crimes into this one. I have loved all the books in this series.

There is an unprovoked stabbing, DI Erica Swift gets the assignment. There are three witnesses, but there is no evidence left by the assailant. This case brings back memories of when Erica's husband was killed, His murderer is in prison, but another murder takes place that has similarities to her husband's murder. Is there a hidden message in the murders that are happening? I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Usually when series' do books like this they are rather formulaic hence I wasn't expecting to enjoy this installment in the series as much as the others (despite the amazing writing) but because of the way this series was set up it allowed for amazing character development (better than I'd imagined) and I liked the dual pov immensely exploring the thoughts of her husband's murderer simultaneously with the mimic case .

This is a formula for a suspenseful book. Has a killer, detective and a prisoner. In a place also that has the air of mystery, London has Erica talking to someone she did not think would be one she would be talking to again. He has answers though to what new there is going on. Anticipation begins as you turn the pages to get in deeper because that is where the answers are.

Great detective story, I couldn't put it down

DI Erica Swift finds a familiarity with a current crime investigation. When Another crime is committed it's seems a pattern is forming...But what and why? (Another series I've started on book 6, now I'm going to have to start at book one and read the lot.) Thoroughly enjoyable

This story is part of a box set I have.

I enjoyed this crime thriller that has DI Erica Swift second guessing past cases...what is going on? What has the past to do with the present?

Good characters and plot made this an intriguing story; some clever twists and turns were entertaining.

Well-written and engaging.
