Zach stood up quickly and served her the food cheerfully. " Thank you so much, Mum Sara, you're the best... you're an ang__"
" Eat!" The woman snapped and stared down at her food with a scoff and he quickly shut his mouth then slowly sat down and started eating while glancing at Mira who had been quiet all along.
" Mira, I have to see the mayor today... Zach will accompany you and don't play around, " the woman muttered softly then gave her a knowing look.
' The Mayor? ' Mira shouted inside with dilated pupils and her gaze darted to Zach who was busily eating. The Mayor was the one that had sponsored her to college and even after her baby died, the guy had been so adamant to marry her. She nodded slowly at the woman and hoped the crazy guy would give up on her already.
After they were done eating, the woman took her bag and left the house after bidding them goodbye and giving Zach another intimidating look.
" Mira, let's bring something to the kids. How about sweets and also toys. What do you think?" Zach turned to her as they left the house and he opened the car door for her.
" Yeah, that would be great. I'm sure they would love them." Mira nodded with a smile and watched him sit on the driver's seat. " Then, we should stop at the market first, " she added.
" Yeah, the market it is," He cheered then started the car excitedly and drove off. He was finally going to have alone time with her.
" Ehm Mira?" He contemplated for a while before stopping the car as they neared the market then turned to face her side profile.
" Yeah?" She also turned to him from the window and noticed that his expression had turned serious. " Is something wrong,?" she inquired with a slight frown.
" Y..yeah. . . It's about Maggie." He carefully watched her expression and narrated to her what his brother had told him and how he had planned to deal with her.
Mira glanced down and bit her lips. Zach had told her how he had found out that it was Maggie that set them up as the guy who had helped her that night was also one of the gangs and he had blown her cover. He also told her the kind of punishment he had inflicted on her.
However, what Maggie went through would never measure to a fraction of her pain. Because if it wasn't for her, Zach would have accepted her confession that day.
But it was also because of her that she had her baby who had only be her source of happiness in her unfortunate days. " It's alright Zach, I'm sure big brother had a very good plan in mind, " she softly said and looked out of the window.
" Hmmm, okay Mira " Zach nodded then started the car again and they soon arrived at the market.
They trek hand in hand as they passed through the many stalls that were lined up side by side in the large area filled with people.
" Wow, I've never seen him around here before."
" Yeah me too. I think he's a guest here."
" I've seen him before."
" Really? where where? tell us"
" At Mum Sara's farm last week when I went to buy milk."
" But he doesn't look like a farmer."
" I know right, he's like one of those handsome CEOs I've seen in TVs."
Zach turned toward the girls who were whispering in a corner not far from them then chuckled and waved at them. " Hi." He flashed them his signature playboy smile and Mira rolled her eyes then scoffed.
The girls gawked at him for some seconds then squealed loudly, almost attracting everyone's attention in the market, and they suddenly ran forward and surrounded them.
" Handsome brother, what's your name?" One of the girls who had two ponytails watched him with sparkly eyes.
" Yes, Handsome brother, is it true you live in Mum Sara's house?." Another girl who was shorter among the three jumped excitedly.
" Handsome brother, are you friends with Sis Mira?" The last girl who was slender than the rest held Mira's hands while looking between them with anticipation.
Mira sighed and stared at the girls' uniforms. " Amy, Stacy, Emily, aren't you suppose to be in school now, " she chided and shook her head.
Zach chuckled and looked down at the girls that barely reached his shoulders. " Your Big Sister is my future bride...right Mira?" He drew her closer by the waist and the girls sighed in disappointment.
" Zach, " Mira whispered and glanced at the crowd which had already gathered and were whispering among themselves. She took his hand and quickly strode forward in a different direction. " W..wait, Mira, I think they need my autograph, " Zach whined as he tried to catch up with her strides and she rolled her eyes again.
" Stop lagging around Zach, we need to be fast. Hmph, autograph my foot, " she replied and continued striding toward a store where toys were being sold.
" Hehe, Mira, is that jealousy I hear in your voice?..." Zach followed her into the store and tried to grab her hand which she quickly shoved away.
" Ouch." He winced then put on a pained expression and Mira turned toward him worriedly. She knew she had not use any strength, why was he in pain. ' Oh no.'
" A..Are you alright?" She asked with a frown and held his hand worriedly then he chuckled and used that opportunity to pull her into his arms. " Zach." She gasped while staring at him wide-eyed.
" Now answer me. are you jealous?" He smirked and engulfed her in a tight hug.
" Tsk tsk tsk these kids...they can't even control themselves in public." An old woman scoffed from the counter while giving them a scrutinizing look then turned back to the book she was reading.
Mira's cheeks turned red and she broke out of his grip forcefully which almost made him. She ran inside the shop and Zach chuckled then rushed after her.
When they were done shopping, Mira put two identical dolls in a separate bag and allowed Zach to carry the rest.
