Can you annex puppets in Vic3? ›

Yes, it's the same as declaring wars.

Each vassal can be a liege towards their own set of vassals, as long as lower title ranks exist.

Vassals are absolutely essential for ruling large realms in Crusader Kings 3. They manage domains, help out on the council, support their liege in war, and most importantly pay their taxes. However, they can also cause the player plenty of problems.

After the war the state is a protectorate, so no income transfer, etc. There is no separate option to "Make a Puppet", just "Make Protectorate" or "Conquer State".

Benefits of puppeting

The puppet automatically joins any wars on the side of the puppet master. If the puppet is non player controlled, the puppet master can cede land to it regardless. This does not work vice versa.

if you have more than 2 duchies in your demesne, your vassals will give you the "too many held duchies" modifier. and you don't want to give your vassals a title that contains de jure lands that you hold personally (as explained before), so the correct thing to do is to *destroy* the excess duchy titles.

Bring up the Diplomacy menu. If the player's country is not shown, click on View Own Country in the bottom right of the menu. In the bottom right hand corner of the menu that pops up, there is a button called Create Vassals.

A puppet can become independent through a peace treaty without the treaty explicitly stating so.

You can only annex puppets without the use of console commands if you have the TFV dlc as that introduces the autonomy feature. With TFV: To annex them or just view the general progess go to the diplomacy tab of your nation and click "Manage Subjects".

If the Papal State is annexed then a surviving Catholic theocracy may cede their province to recreate the Papacy.
