The Boys: Diabolical's Future in Doubt?
The animated anthology series The Boys Presents: Diabolical, a spin-off of the live-action TV series The Boys, has left fans wondering about its future. Despite its critical acclaim and unique animation styles, the show's creator, Eric Kripke, has revealed that a second season is unlikely.
In an interview with The Wrap, Kripke explained that the lack of viewer numbers was the primary reason for the show's cancellation. He stated, 'I don't think there will be a Season 2 of Diabolical. It's not because we didn't push for it. The numbers just didn't justify a second season, unfortunately.'
Despite the show's positive reception, Kripke acknowledged that the viewer numbers were not sufficient to secure a second season. However, he remains optimistic about the future of the franchise.
The Boys universe is expanding with two new spin-offs in the works: The Boys: Mexico, a live-action series set in a different location, and Vought Rising, a prequel series set in the 1950s. Kripke expressed enthusiasm for these projects, but he also emphasized the importance of viewer engagement.
For Gen V and Vought Rising, Kripke highlighted the need for sufficient viewer numbers to justify subsequent seasons. He stated, 'We have plans for Season 2 and Season 3, but we need the audience to show up. If enough people watch, we'll get those seasons.'
The Boys franchise is set to continue with the fifth and final season of The Boys premiering in 2026, and the season 2 finale of Gen V arriving on Prime Video on October 22. The future of Diabolical remains uncertain, leaving fans to wonder if the show's unique storytelling and animation will continue.
