Pecco Bagnaia Portugal MotoGP Sprint Reaction: 'I Simply Lacked Speed' | 2025 Season (2025)

The Gripping Tale of Pecco Bagnaia's Sprint Woes

Pecco Bagnaia, the double world champion, has had a rollercoaster ride in the 2025 MotoGP campaign, especially when it comes to his sprint performances. And this weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix was no exception.

Starting from a promising fourth position on the grid, Bagnaia's hopes quickly faded as he struggled to keep up with the pace. He finished a disappointing eighth, a far cry from his two sprint victories earlier in the season. But here's where it gets controversial: Bagnaia believes it all boils down to a lack of speed.

"I simply lacked speed from the get-go," he confessed. "The grip just wasn't there, and I couldn't accelerate out of the corners like I needed to. It's as simple as that."

And this is the part most people miss: Bagnaia's issues aren't just about raw speed. He also struggled with tire preservation, a critical aspect of sprint races. By the end, he was fighting just to stay on the track, let alone challenge for the win.

"The rear tire was gone. I was hanging on for dear life, and in the end, they just wiped me out at the finish line," he explained.

Despite the setbacks, Bagnaia remains optimistic. He believes the team can find a solution to his grip issues, and he's setting his sights on a podium finish in the grand prix.

"We're working hard to improve the grip. We've got some ideas, and we'll be giving it our all tomorrow. I think we can make a step forward and fight for that podium spot."

So, what do you think? Can Bagnaia and Ducati turn things around? Or is this a sign of deeper issues? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
