This simple peppermint foot scrub can be used both as a foot soak and to exfoliate the feet. It’s soothing and cooling, and is the perfect home remedy for dry, rough, cracked feet!

How to Use This Recipe as a Foot Scrub

If your feet or heels are rough and cracked, exfoliating them is a must.

It’s best to use a foot scrub after a shower, bath, or a foot soak so the skin on your feet is softened and easier to exfoliate.

Using this homemade foot scrub is super easy:

  • Take about 1/4 cup of the scrub mixture (or about two tablespoons for each foot).
  • Massage deeply into your feet, spending extra time around your heels or any area that’s especially rough.
  • Feet should be damp but not too wet while using the scrub. Too much water will dilute the scrub and make it less effective.
  • Rinse feet well and pat dry.
  • Because of the coconut oil, your feet might feel a little oily just after using the foot scrub. I recommend putting on some socks and letting that moisture soak in!
  • Use 1-2 times per week.

How to Use This Recipe as a Foot Soak

Like I mentioned above, soaking your feet is the perfect thing to do before exfoliating because it softens all the rough, cracked skin so it’s easier to scrub away.

A good homemade foot soak will also alleviate soreness and tension in your feet.

After a long day on my feet, it’s positively refreshing to use this foot soak.

Here’s how to use this recipe as a peppermint foot soak:

  • Add 1/4 cup of the foot soak mixture to 2 quarts of very warm water.
  • Use in the bathtub or in a foot bath.
  • Soak your feet for at least 10 minutes.
  • Then, use this recipe as a foot scrub (see above) to exfoliate your feet, if desired.
  • Rinse and dry your feet.
  • Again, the coconut oil might make your feet feel slippery. I recommend socks to hold that moisture in so your feet will continue to soften.
  • Use 1-2 times per week, or anytime you need a relaxing foot soak!

Ingredients in this DIY Foot Scrub Recipe

Epsom salts contain magnesium and sulfur, which are soothing and relaxing for tired feet (especially as a foot soak).

These salts also help soften the feet and provide exfoliation when used as a scrub.

Baking soda naturally deodorizes (no more stinky feet!). It also softens and exfoliates your skin.

(Remember to stir the baking soda and Epsom salts together first before adding the liquid ingredients. This helps everything mix together.)

Coconut oil provides natural moisture to your skin. It also helps lubricate the scrub so it’s more effective at deep exfoliation.

If you’d like, you can sub your favorite moisturizing oil for the coconut oil.

Peppermint essential oil is cooling and soothing for achy, tired feet. Peppermint’s invigorating smell will energize you, and it also naturally eliminates odor.

If peppermint oil is too cooling for you, I recommend trying lavender essential oil as a relaxing alternative.

  • Combine Epsom salts and baking soda in a medium bowl.

  • Stir gently to mix dry ingredients.

  • Melt coconut oil and pour over dry mixture.

  • Add peppermint oil one drop at a time while gently stirring the mixture.

  • Stir until well mixed.

  • Store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • How to use as a foot scrub: use 1/4 cup of the scrub and massage into wet feet. Rinse well and put on socks to seal the moisture in.
  • How to use as a foot soak: use 1/4 cup of the recipe in 2 quarts of warm water. Soak feet for 10-15 minutes. Use the scrub after to remove all dead skin and calluses. Put on socks to seal the moisture in.
  • This scrub/soak will keep for at least 6 months (as long as no water or water-based ingredients get into the mix.)
